Several therapies have been tried. Varying from filling with amalgam, white fillings, special fillings that can withstand a humid environment (glass ionomer), dental cleaning under sedation, then polishing, and preventive fluoride treatments. However, nothing gives improvement. The odontoclasts continue to break down the tooth tissue. When teeth are broken off, one often sees root remnants. The only effective therapy to get the cat free of pain is pulling or extracting the affected tooth or molar.
