A diagnosis of FIP is usually made based on clinical signs, routine laboratory tests, and evaluation of fluid in the abdominal or chest cavity. Some cases are a diagnostic challenge, as the symptoms are not specific to FIP. In all cases, a tissue biopsy is the only way to confirm a diagnosis of FIP.
