Testing

FIV, like FeLV, can be diagrammed using blood tests. Using a blood test antibodies against the FIV virus are detected. Most cats make antibodies 3-4 weeks after infection. A single positive result means that the cat is infected. In healthy cats, false-positive results can occur. If the test is positive in a healthy cat, the blood will have to be sent to a specialized laboratory for confirmation.
