Treatment

Unfortunately, no cure is possible, but medication can sometimes keep HCM cats alive for several years, depending on the severity and degree of symptoms. Treatment varies depending on the signs and may include providing diuretics, drugs that improve heart function, or that reduce the risk of thrombosis. To support the procedure, the veterinarian may prescribe a special low-sodium diet. This diet, in combination with medication, can help reduce fluid retention and associated symptoms, such as tightness of the chest.
