Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)

This form can be caused by a nutritional error, namely a lack of taurine. By increasing the taurine content in commercial feeds, this condition has now become rare. However, it doesn’t mean that a cat with DCM got this because of a feeding defect, also here, more causes are possible. DCM is now mainly seen in older animals. The first dilates the left ventricle; at a later stage, the whole heart dilates.
